Mercato Nuovo is a cultural venue in Taranto that combines live music, artistic events and neighbourhood life. It describes itself as a live music venue and an ARCI club, designed not only to host concerts but also to create a place for people to meet and share culture. The project stems from the conversion of a former goods warehouse situated in the Porta Napoli area, between the Tamburi neighbourhood, the industrial zone and the Old Town. The stated aim is to revitalise a peripheral area through culture, music and new forms of social interaction. Today, the Mercato Nuovo features a large stage, a lounge area and a programme centred on contemporary music, the performing arts, cinema and cultural events. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the key venues on Taranto’s alternative cultural scene.
