Casa Viola is a community centre situated at 51 Via Platea, in the Tre Carrare-Solito neighbourhood of Taranto. It was established with the aim of combating social decline, offering the community a welcoming, multi-purpose space open to public participation. It houses both the community library and the MuDIT – Museum of Illustrious Tarantines, creating a unique cultural hub dedicated to study, reading, remembrance, creativity and the promotion of Taranto’s identity. Casa Viola hosts creative workshops, art exhibitions, courses, book launches, public meetings, cultural events and initiatives dedicated to inclusion. Throughout the year, it promotes activities aimed at local residents, associations, artists and local organisations, including Arena Viola, a free-entry open-air neighbourhood cinema. Casa Viola is therefore a vibrant, open and participatory space, where culture, community and the region’s heritage come together in a single entity serving the city.
